Ailbhe NÃ Ghearbhuigh: The poetry between worlds
Irish poet Ailbhe NÃ Ghearbhuigh
In the Studio enters the creative world of Irish-language poet Ailbhe NÃ Ghearbhuig as she composes a new poem from first idea to first public reading.
Ailbhe takes Dualtagh Herr inside the making of a poem inspired by her daughter’s fascination with Greek mythology, reflecting on writing, motherhood, and the rhythms of daily life that shape her work. Through a combination of intimate audio diaries recorded during the writing process and conversations captured during visits to her home in Cork and performance in Dublin, we learn why Ailbhe writes exclusively in Irish, the musical qualities of the language, and what is gained and lost in translation.
As the poem moves from draft to finished work, Dualtagh follows its journey through translation, collaboration, and finally to its debut performance at the Franco-Irish Literary Festival, offering a rare insight into how a contemporary poem comes into being and finds its audience.
