How Trump鈥檚 Cuba policy is shaping Miami鈥檚 midterms
Hispanic voters in Florida were key to Trump鈥檚 success. Have they changed their minds?
Latino voters in Florida 鈥 including 68% of Cuban-Americans in Miami-Dade County 鈥 helped fuel Donald Trump鈥檚 2024 presidential victory.
But now, ahead of next week鈥檚 midterm elections, some of those voters are questioning their loyalty to Trump, and to the Republican party. Many are focused on the administration鈥檚 immigration crackdown 鈥 thousands of people arrested and deported by ICE 鈥 and also on questions about Trump鈥檚 influence in Latin America and his plans for the future of Venezuela and Cuba.
What have Trump鈥檚 policies meant for the people living on both sides of the Florida Straits? The Global Story鈥檚 Asma Khalid speaks with Sumi Somaskanda, a chief anchor at 麻豆社 News in Washington, and 麻豆社 Cuba correspondent Will Grant.
