Kangaroo care for premature babies
How a mum鈥檚 skin can save her baby鈥檚 life.
In a hospital ward in Bogota, Colombia, premature babies are getting kangaroo care.
They are not in an incubator, or surrounded by medical equipment. They鈥檙e wrapped tightly against their mother鈥檚 skin.
The method was developed in Colombia in the late 1970s. They couldn鈥檛 afford incubators and a massive proportion of premature babies weren鈥檛 surviving.
One doctor tried out this simple skin-to-skin system. They found it was not only saving babies lives but helping them to thrive. Now the method has spread around the world.
