Vote - Greatest North Eastern Free Thinker

Between 8th and 16th October 2009, extended to midnight on 16th October, Âé¶¹Éç Radio 3 and Âé¶¹Éç Newcastle will be running an online vote to select the 5th of our Great North Eastern Freethinkers.

Listeners will be invited to select online one historic figure from a shortlist of 12 supplied by Newcastle's Literary and Philosophical Society.

After the announced closing time, the result of the vote will be announced on this website and on Âé¶¹Éç Radio 3 and Âé¶¹Éç Newcastle. A writer will be commissioned to write an essay for broadcast on Radio 3 on the life of the historic figure with the highest number of votes from listeners.

Terms and Conditions:

1. Listeners can take part only by accessing the following link Any votes outside the announced voting interval will not count.

2. This is not a competition and there will be no prize for anyone who voted for the chosen historic figure.

3. The Âé¶¹Éç reserves the right to change, cancel or suspend this event at any time.

4. If you are listening to the programme on iPlayer or any other time shift or catch- up service you should not take part in this event as voting may have closed.

5. You can only vote once. The Âé¶¹Éç reserves the right to disqualify votes or suspend voting if it has reasonable grounds to suspect that fraudulent voting has occurred or if it considers there has been any attempt to rig the voting. The Âé¶¹Éç has the right to substitute an alternative selection method at its absolute discretion.

6. The Âé¶¹Éç cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for any technical failure or malfunction or any other problem with any on-line, system, server, provider or otherwise which may result in any vote being lost or not properly registered or recorded.

7. Please note that anyone who is directly connected in any way with the production of the programme or the event is not eligible to vote.
