Last month Birdie McDonald won the 'Outstanding Achievement Award'聽 from Women of the Year, in recognition of the more than 700 foster children that she has taken care in her lifetime.
Birdie was unusual in that she did聽short term fostering. When there聽was聽an emergency聽 in the middle of the night - and there was nowhere聽for聽a frightened聽child to go -聽it was Birdie who would step in, open up her arms, her heart and her home,聽and take care of them.
