 Listen to the item
In 1941, right bang in the middle of World War II, Violent Tunstall decided to聽travel from her home in Assam to visit her two sons at school in England.聽All went well on the voyage over, but it was a different story聽on the return journey. As聽Violet's ship passed through the Irish Sea, it聽was hit by a torpedo and sank.
20 years ago, Violet recorded her experience. Her son, Michael, sent us the tape聽and we invited him along to the studio to聽talk about why his mother's recording聽means so much to him.
