There is a game played once a year on January 6th and it's called Haxey Hood. It's origins are something to do with a medieval event when a lady's hood fell off. Essentially 400 men - two teams drawn from Haxey and the neighbouring village of Westwoodside - form a huge scrum and then they ruck and maul and rake a claw in a manly way for something between four and six hours pausing only for trips to the pub which they call goals.
