Dead Man鈥檚 Pants

John Dunk, in a slightly perturbed state of mind, got in touch with this...

I remember receiving a selection of second hand shirts and sweaters from my mother without, in my innocence, considering their origin. It wasn't until some weeks later that I discovered, to my horror, that my windfall came as a result of someone's death - I was wearing dead man's clothes! I was talking to my partner about it when she told me about a relative who鈥檇 sold her dearly departed's complete wardrobe except for some items no-one wanted. She offered these to the rest of the family free. Imagine that - being told you were wearing dead people's clothes that weren't even good enough for a jumble sale. How traumatic would that be?

Have you a piece of clothing that you cherish, but which came to you because someone had died?

Why do you regard it as a valuable possession?

If not clothes from the wardrobe of someone's who's died, what causes you to start back in horror?
