Mothers and knife crime 2 June 2008
Part of one of the knife crime adverts
Are mums the key to ending knife crime?

The Home Office has announced it is to spend £5 million on an advertising campaign to raise public awareness of knife crime. Part of the campaign is a series of adverts placed in women’s magazines appealing to mothers to talk to their sons about the dangers of carrying knives. So should parents start discussing knives with their children alongside drugs and sex? Richard Garside from the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies at King’s College London, Teresa Kave from Mothers Against Violence, and Lucie Russell from SmartJustice join Jane to discuss.
