The stereotype of the teenage girl offender is that of a shoplifter – and it’s true that if a teenage girl does commit a crime, shoplifting is the most likely. It’s almost seen as a rite of passage. What happens to girls when they do shoplift and are caught – which is increasingly likely in an age of CCTV?
