The relationship between income and family structure.

AÌýnew Civitas report, Second Thoughts on the Family, demonstrates the relationship between income and family structure. People on low incomes are considerably more likely to be unmarried and separated,Ìýwith financial problemsÌýbeing a contributory factorÌýtoÌýfamily instability. The Conservative Party believes that the two-parent family needs promoting, by offering financial incentives to marry.ÌýLabour, has adopted a ‘neutral’ position, in which family structure doesn’t matter, and support for diversity is key.ÌýJaneÌýis joined by Anastasia De Waal, author of the report, Maria Miller, Shadow Minister for Family Welfare and Harriet Harman, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party.
