The wierd & wonderful names of British hair salons

Hair Salons have a long tradition of word play and visual puns, revealing a self-deprecating humour that is quintessentially British. Now one artist has made it her mission to immortalise the great British Hair Salon with the launch of a new book, â€˜Kurl Up â€˜Nâ€™ Dyeâ€™. The 101 images contained in the book are the culmination of the six years InÃ©s Rae has spent scouring the back streets of Great Britain, in search of hair salons with signs that tell a story or playfully provide a glimpse of the culture that lies behind them. Judy Merry went with her to meet some of the women behind the hair humour.
