Ìý Brighton Pavilion 12 January 2004 Ìý
Image: Brighton Pavilion
The brainchild and passion of George IV, Brighton Pavilion is a reflection of his flamboyant character and sophisticated taste. At the time it caused much comment from royals and dignitaries and continues to do so.

Its complexity, many different styles and the ravages of time have meant it has needed constant restoration by successive monarchs and now the Brighton Corporation.

Work on the building is at a very interesting stage the moment because several rooms, including the private bedrooms of the royal family, have just been reopened in fully restored glory.

Judi Herman went to meet Jessica Rutherford author of A Prince's Passion: The Life of the Royal Pavilion and to talk to some of the women whose life's work is restoring the Pavilion.

A Prince's Passion: The Life of the Royal Pavilion' is available now.
