Can LED Lights Interfere with my DAB Reception?

Anonymous — Thu, 03 Oct 2019 13:47:06 +0000

Can LED Lights Interfere with my DAB Reception?

There is a possibility some LED Lights can cause interference to DAB and FM Radio Reception, particularly if LED lights are used to replace halogen lights, and retain the original transformer. This is because the power used is lower, and is forced to work outside of its normal operating parameters, resulting in electrical impulse interference. For more information on interference, please see our RTIS site

Do I need an outdoor aerial for DAB?

Anonymous — Fri, 25 Oct 2019 18:25:02 +0000

Do I need an outdoor aerial for DAB?

A DAB radio will work with both a telescopic aerial and an outdoor aerial. However, should you be getting poor reception from an internal aerial and you have tried extending tilting and swivelling the aerial and this does not improve your reception. You may want to consider an external aerial to offer you the best reception; this should be on the roof or high up on the outside of the building.

What is a Secondary Service?

Anonymous — Wed, 28 Jul 2021 14:40:03 +0000

What is a Secondary Service?

On digital radio there are several 'secondary' services, for example Radio 5 Live Extra. These are radio stations which only operate on a part-time basis, or come on air to provide alternative programming to the main service.

To access a secondary service you need to tune in when the service is actually broadcasting. That way your DAB set will store the station in its memory. If you try tuning in when the station is not broadcasting the display screen may state ‘Station Off Air’ or ‘Station Unavailable’.

What is the difference between DAB and DAB+?

Anonymous — Wed, 28 Jul 2021 14:50:03 +0000

What is the difference between DAB and DAB+?

DAB+ is a version of DAB digital radio that gives you access to even more stations.

To receive DAB+ stations you must have a DAB+ enabled radio. If you recently bought a new DAB radio, then the chances are you already have DAB+. The simplest way to be sure is to look for the Digital Radio Tick Mark on the radio or its packaging. All radios that bear that Tick Mark are able to receive FM, DAB and DAB+ stations.

鶹 Radio Leeds sports coverage - How to listen to your team

鶹 Radio Leeds sports coverage - How to listen to your team

鶹 Radio Leeds on DAB now has the option to offer commentary for two matches at the same time. FM also allows for a further split. This means that we can provide coverage for when Huddersfield Town, Bradford City, and Leeds United are all playing at the same time. This FAQ details the various ways of listening when more than one team is playing concurrently.

These are the various ways of listening to football commentary:

FM
Freeview (Channel 719)
DAB 11B
DAB 12D

11B and 12D are different DAB frequencies (similar to how a radio station on FM can be on more than one frequency). 11B has greater coverage around Bradford City while 12D has better coverage in other locations. Some DAB sets will display this when you tune into the station, with others you may need to go into settings/info to discover.

Depending on where you are, you might be able to pick up both or just one version on either 11B or 12D. If you can pick up both, you will have two 鶹 Radio Leeds displayed in the station list on your DAB receiver.

You can check what you are predicted to receive using our transmitter checker tool (follow link and select Digital Radio).

Here’s how to listen to coverage in the various scenarios where more than one team is playing at the same time:

If all three teams play:

Leeds United - FM
Huddersfield Town - 12D and Freeview 719
Bradford City - 11B

When Leeds and Huddersfield play:

Leeds United - FM
Huddersfield Town - 11B + 12D + Freeview 719

When Leeds and Bradford play:

Leeds United – FM
Bradford City - 11B + 12D + Freeview 719

When Huddersfield and Bradford play:

Huddersfield Town - FM + 12D + Freeview 719
Bradford City - 11B

When just one team plays:

They get all frequencies.

If you're not able to receive the 12D signal on DAB and want to listen to Huddersfield Town (when either Bradford City or Leeds United are also playing), your best option is to listen on Freeview.

Due to rights restrictions, coverage is not available via online platforms like 鶹 Sounds or smart speakers for example.

鶹 Radio 1 Dance, Radio 1 Anthems, and Radio 3 Unwind have launched nationally on DAB+ on 12th September.

Jane.Frydenlund — Mon, 01 Sep 2025 14:00:46 +0000

鶹 Radio 1 Dance, Radio 1 Anthems, and Radio 3 Unwind have launched nationally on DAB+ on 12th September.

鶹 Radio 1 Dance, Radio 1 Anthems and Radio 3 Unwind are now available nationally on DAB+ across the UK providing more choice and value to our listeners. For more information on how to listen please see the FAQs below:

Q. What are the new stations?

Radio 1 Dance focusing on new and enhanced dance content for younger audiences
Radio 1 Anthems dedicated to classic and anthemic hits
Radio 3 Unwind providing calming classical music to unwind your mind

Q. How do I find the new stations on my DAB+ radio?

Most digital radios update the station list automatically and some may need you to re-scan your radio. You should be able to find Radio 1 Anthems and Radio 1 Dance before/after Radio 1 in the station list. Radio 3 Unwind should appear after Radio 3.

Q. How do I know if I have a DAB+ radio?

The easiest way to find out if your radio is DAB+ is to do a ‘re-scan’ to update all the new services available in your area. If you have retained your packaging please look for the digital tick logo. The digital radio tick mark is a certification mark for digital radios that required the radio to be tested and approved. The mark gives you the assurance that the radio you are buying is an approved product which is future-ready and combines DAB, DAB+ and FM.

Q. Why are the new streams in DAB+ and not DAB?

The first UK DAB+ stations launched in the UK in 2016 and there are now more than 60 national commercial stations available and over six hundred services on local multiplexes, including 鶹 Radio Cumbria, 鶹 Radio Jersey and 鶹 Radio Guernsey. DAB+ is an upgraded version of DAB and is much more spectrum efficient, allowing for more services to be broadcast by using the same amount of capacity. This means we’re able to launch new 鶹 stations by using the spectrum that has been allocated to us for use. DAB+ is available in all new cars and in the majority of domestic radio devices.

Q. Does the 鶹 have any plans to move its current radio stations from DAB to DAB+?

No, there are no plans to move current services to DAB+.

Q. Do I have to buy a DAB+ radio to listen to the new streams?

Yes. DAB+ radios are available from electrical retailers, some supermarkets and online. Please check the product description to make sure that the radio is DAB+. Alternatively you can also listen to the new streams via 鶹 Sounds on a smart speaker by asking your device to ‘Play 鶹 Radio 3 Unwind’ .

Q. Can I listen to the new streams in my car?

Yes, if your car has a DAB+ radio. You can also listen via 鶹 Sounds on your smartphone or via *CarPlay and *Android Auto in your car.

(*most new cars have integrated Apple Carplay and/or Android Auto offering smartphone mirroring capabilities)
