Reversing the Motor Direction

When a battery is connected to a motor the motor turns. The direction in which it turns depends on how the wires are connected to the motor. By swapping the wire connections to the motor, the direction of turning is reversed.

H-Rollerbot Robot Build Lesson 7
The electric current flowing through a coil of wire inside the motor creates an electromagnetic field. This magnetic field interacts with the magnetic field between two permanent magnets, causing the coil to turn. If the wire connections to the motor are swapped, the electirc current flows through the coil in the opposite direction reversing the electromagnetic field. This, in turn, reverses the direction in which the coil rotates.
