Coming out of the shelter after a raid, the first thing you did was to look if your house was still there. As kids we ran down to Denny's ship yard as there was a parachute mine hanging from the scaffolding in the shipyard. If it had swung in the breeze I, & half of Dumbarton, wouldnt be here, but that was the excitement of being a kid during the war.

It took years before realizing the Hills above us had Decoy towns to lure the bombs from Clydebank.I saw delayed bombs go off in fields near Bonhill when working in Renton.

Did you ever know about the Bodylines Camp? The Free Polish Army was billeted there in Bonhill, till they left to take part in the d-day assault.

We were given five minutes to get out from Bruce St. We had just lost our own house in Dalmuir on the Thursday night.
