BlastYou are in: Shropshire > Blast > Blast arts diary ![]() Watch out for Annabel's diary Blast arts diaryBy Annabel Jones Over the summer the Â鶹Éç has seen fit to provide me with a notebook, a camera and a sound recording thing. This I what I've done with them so far. Week 6: 27 August – 2 SeptemberOn Monday night I went to Ironbridge to see The Comedy OF Errors at Blists Hill Museum. I thought it might be a bit high-brow for me, but it turned out to be very funny and you can get to the review through the Shropshire Blast Homepage. Wednesday night was Unplugged night, a monthly showcase of local artists at the Belmont Arts Centre. This month's acts included various styles, from Indie to reggae. During the day on Friday I spent the day having a look at how the news team works here at Â鶹Éç Shropshire. I got to watch how news bulletins are put together, then got the chance to record my own attempt at reading one (though they had the sense not to put that on the air!) and experience what it's like to be in that cubicle when the red light is on. I also had a go at writing some of the bulletin for that day and then in the afternoon I went out in the news car with one of the news team, to see what a reporter's job involves. That evening I stayed on for the Gerbil show and interviewed local metal band Primal State, who recently signed to A Wolf At Your Door. Week 5: 20 – 26 AugustAfter getting back from V Festival, I was pretty much exhausted. Monday was spent writing up my festival diary (which you can get to through the Shropshire Blast home page), and then I spent roughly two days asleep. I had more editing and stuff to do in the office towards the end of the week and then the Gerbil show on Friday. This week's guests were Lady Muck, an Oswestry four-piece who refuse to pick a genre and stick to it. Instead, they have decided to select around twelve or so of their favourites and mush them all up into a style all of their own. As usual, I interviewed the guests after the show and you can find the results on the Blast home page very soon. Next week, I take on Shakespeare, an acoustic night and a trip out in the news car. Week four: 13 – 19 AugustUnfortunately, the first half of this week was all very dull. My main companion was a big book of record companies' phone numbers. I think I ended up ringing or emailing just about everyone who is currently working in the entire UK music industry, trying to get interviews with artists who will be playing at the V Festival. But, alas, all was not lost, as I eventually managed to secure myself a slot with Editors drummer Ed Lay on Sunday afternoon, so all was good. The festival itself kicked off around noon on Saturday, but I joined in with the vast majority of those camping and went on Friday. This meant I also got to go to the opening night campers' party at the JJB arena and dance in a very silly way to a bunch of records from the bands due to play the festival over the next two days. As for Saturday and Sunday, there is just too much to write about in this diary, so they have their own Festival Diary page. Oh, and you can find out how the interview with Ed turned out.Ìý PS: Congratulations to everyone who got their A-level results on Thursday, because we are officially the best ever ![]() Ourspace in Bridgnorth Week three: 6 – 12 AugustMonday night started with a trip to The Haygate in Wellington for their live music night, the Monday Night Project. Cheshire boys Clockwork Orange and Telford's own Wooden Boy provided the entertainment and I provided the review. Not much news from during the week though, I'm afraid, as it was mostly taken up with writing up the Ourspace project theatre performance from last Friday, the Barriers art exhibition from Saturday, and editing the audio for my Jake Flowers interview from last week's Gerbil show. ![]() Jake Flowers The Friday Night Gerbil's guests this week were Telford indie-boys The Sibling Rivalry. I got an interview after the show had finished, and much fun was had by all. Next week: I will miss the usual Gerbil-based silliness (boo!) because I will be at the V Festival instead (yay!).
