Why do I have to sign in every time?

If you're being asked to sign in to your �鶹�� account each time you use the �鶹�� Sounds website or �鶹�� Sounds app, it's most likely because cookies are switched off on your browser or device.

Like most other websites, we use cookies - small text files stored on your computer, mobile or tablet - to recognise that you're signed in and remember your preferences. If you turn off cookies on your browser or on your mobile or tablet:

You won't be able to register or sign in to the �鶹�� (so be sure to enable cookies on your browser, first)
You'll be signed out of your �鶹�� account, so you'll have to sign back in the next time you visit

So if you've chosen to block third-party cookies on your browser and want to avoid problems using your �鶹�� account, make sure to set exceptions for bbc.co.uk, bbc.com and account.bbc.com.

Why must I sign in to a �鶹�� account to listen online?

Without signing in, you‘ll be unable to play programmes or choose to benefit from personalised features such as bookmarking programmes for later, getting personalised programme recommendations based on what you’ve listened to, and picking up where you left off across your devices.

Podcasts can be downloaded from the �鶹�� Sounds website without signing in.

We need to understand more on what people are listening to via radio online to ensure we are providing something for everyone. Up until now, we could only tell how many people used our services, but having more data like age, gender and location will ensure we’re better serving all our audience.

A TV licence is not required to listen to �鶹�� Sounds, or to create a �鶹�� account. The law applies to watching and downloading TV programmes, including via �鶹�� iPlayer.

How do I sign in to �鶹�� Sounds on my TV?

Before you start...

Make sure you've got:

A �鶹�� account. You can use your existing one. If you don't already have a �鶹�� account, register by going to bbc.com/register.
A second device, such as a mobile, tablet or computer. This is where you'll enter the code shown on your TV.

Please sign in to your �鶹�� account on the website to make sure that you know your sign-in details. If you've forgotten your password, you can reset it here: I've forgotten my password.

Ready? Here's what you need to do.

Open the �鶹�� Sounds application on your TV. You'll see the sign in screen. To switch the language, select the speech bubble icon on the top right.

Select to sign in using your mobile or computer, or to sign in using your TV remote.

When selecting the option to sign in using a mobile or computer, you'll see a screen with a URL and a six-digit code. You'll need these to sign in.

On your mobile, tablet or computer, open your internet browser and go to bbc.com/tvcode. You'll see a screen asking you to enter the six digit code shown on your TV.

Next, you'll be asked to confirm your account details, so enter your email address and password and select Sign in.

Wait a few seconds for your TV to catch up, then you're done! You're now signed in on your TV.

Signing in using your TV remote

When you choose this option, you will be asked to enter your email address and �鶹�� account password.

Some things to be aware of

If you don't use the activation code, it will expire after 60 minutes so you'll need to start again.
Only one person can use the activation code. If two or more people try to use the same code, it won't work.
If the website advises that you're signed in but your TV doesn't change, or it asks you to sign in again, please run through our TV troubleshooting steps as these may help.
If you want to sign in on more than one TV, follow the same procedure with those devices. You'll be given a code linked to that particular device. You can sign in to as many TV devices as you need.
If you'd like to sign an additional account in on your TV, follow the same process. Each new user will need their own �鶹�� account.

What if I don't have a mobile, tablet or computer?

It isn't possible to sign in to �鶹�� Sounds on connected TVs without first signing in to a second device.
