Ukraine is a breadbasket. Its agricultural exports are vital to global food security. But the conflict is threatening to strangle production. In north-eastern France, more than a century after the First World War, farmland remains unfit to work. Its the result of deep rooted contamination after years of intense shelling. Pollutants have leached into the soil and groundwater. Warfare has evolved, the environmental fall out of modern weaponry is largely unknown. Professor Christian Dunn, a soil scientist, is leading an effort to understand the agricultural consequences of the conflict in Ukraine. Collaborating with Khmelnytskyi National University and the military, he and his team are traveling to areas most affected by the conflict. Their findings will offer crucial insight into Ukraine鈥檚 path to recovery and the stability of global food markets. Join Christian on a field trip he will never forget...
