The Â鶹Éç National Orchestra of Wales and conductor Stephanie Childress perform Williams, Maconchy, Semple, and Wolfe as part of their ‘Grace’ series of concerts. The series explores the music of female composers, and specifically Grace Williams - here in her evocative Ballads. In this concert the Orchestra showcases works by the living composers Anna Semple and Julia Wolfe: Semple’s The Gates plays with the ideas of recall and memory, while Wolfe’s Pretty is a raucous celebration of the connotations of what being 'pretty' means. Also on the bill is Williams' friend and colleague, Elizabeth Maconchy, and her superb Seranata Concertante, with Geneva Lewis as soloist. Presented by Verity Sharp, live from Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff.
