Copland’s El Salon Mexico

Radio 3 in Concert

Available for 18 days

The spirit of dance weaves its way through tonight’s concert from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra at its home at the Philharmonic Hall. Alpesh Chauhan conducts a programme inspired on the one hand by the sights and sounds of an infamous Mexican club and on the other by Europe in fin de siècle turmoil. At the heart of today’s programme is the Violin Concerto by Benjamin Britten performed by the Dutch violinist Simone Lamsma, a former Artist-in-Residence with the RLPO. Britten’s lilting and melodious concerto ends with an impressive and virtuosic set of variations on a passacaglia. Introduced by Penny Gore. Copland: El Salón México Britten: Violin Concerto
