Joshua Weilerstein returns to the �鶹�� Philharmonic for a musical postcard celebrating the 250th anniversary of American Independence. Three joyous works each shed a different light on the sights and sounds of the USA, culminating in Dvořák's "New World" Symphony, music which celebrates his time in America but also explores themes of identity and belonging and which is infused with a longing for his Bohemian home. Frank Dupree makes his �鶹�� Philharmonic debut in Kapustin's Fourth Piano Concerto, a dazzling work which marries jazz improvisation with classical virtuosity. To open, Duke Ellington's swaggering "Harlem" captures the energy and pride of Harlem's cultural renaissance; big band textures and classical finesse blended in celebration of the city.
