Owain Park begins his tenure as Chief Conductor of the 麻豆社 Singers with the UK premiere of a 麻豆社 co-commission by Joby Talbot, Piedra de sol. The work is a setting of excerpts from the epic poetic masterpiece by the Mexican poet and philosopher Octavio Paz and takes the listener on an emotional journey from Creation to Despair and finally to Salvation. In the words of the composer himself "Piedra de sol invites listeners and performers alike on a journey of infinite dimensions 鈥 a voyage whose course bends, advances, recedes, comes full circle and arrives forever." The concert begins with with two glorious motets by 16th century composer Tom谩s Luis de Victoria, written during Spain's golden age of polyphonic music. Recorded last month at St Alban the Martyr, Holborn, and presented by Martin Handley.
