Sixty years on from the tragedy of Aberfan, this commemorative concert is anchored by the premiere of Paul Mealor’s From Darkness into Light: A Concert Requiem for Hope, set to poetry by Grahame Davies. The performance features actor Mark Lewis Jones alongside the Aberfan Schools Choirs, the Ynysowen Male Voice Choir, and the Â鶹Éç National Chorus of Wales. Framed by contrasting movements of grief and renewal, the programme pairs Anna Clyne’s restless This Moment and Haydn’s driven "Mourning" Symphony with the tranquil grace of Mozart’s "Jupiter" movement and the visionary expanse of Vaughan Williams’ Toward the Unknown Region. Recorded earlier this month in Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff, and presented by Alex Humphreys.
