The Decline of the Weaver Poets

The Ulster-Scots

Available for over a year

As the tradition of weaving began to decline, so too did the writings of the weaver poets. Dr Ivan Herbison tells Helen Mark that the development of the National School system also played a part in this - as English became the standard used in the curriculum - and this had resonances right into the 20th century and the current status of Ulster-Scots. (Broadcast: 29/05/1999)
