One donation, three lives saved - Berkshire blood bank needs a boost

Louise Chandler

Available for over a year

Just one blood donation can save three people鈥檚 lives, but only two per cent of Berkshire鈥檚 blood donors are from the black community. In this extract, 麻豆社 Berkshire鈥檚 Louise Chandler adds her blood to the bank and Dominic Sutherland, lead donor relations manager for NHS blood donation service in Berkshire, explains why the work to attract donors never stops... This comes in the same week a Labour MP called for a Bill to make it a duty on schools and colleges to educate children of the benefits of blood, organ and bone marrow donation. For illnesses more prevalent in black people, like Sickle Cell Anaemia, it's vital that blood is ethnically matched.
