American basketball star gay and proud - Leicester speaks.

Dulcie Dixon

Available for over a year

Being openly gay in athletics is a risk – one that British footballer Justin Fashanu took in 1990, and one Jason Collins has recently taken. He made headlines last week as the first male athlete still competing in a major American professional sport to announce he is gay. President Barack Obama is among those expressing public support. But how would the news go down in Britain, where no gay footballer has followed in the footsteps of Justin Fashanu in over twenty years. In this extract, Â鶹Éç Leicester reporter Kevin Ncube asks some young men in Leicester for their views.
