"Children will go with any story so long as it is good. But white adults sometimes think that if a black child is on the cover it is perhaps not for them". That's according to Malorie Blackman, who was appointed the new Children's Laureate. The position is awarded once every two years to a distinguished writer or illustrator of children's books.
