Home Office considers Visa charge for Africans and Asians - Leicester reaction

Dulcie Dixon

Available for over a year

Visitors to the UK coming from some African and Asian countries will soon have to pay a visa bond as part of a Home Office pilot scheme to try to cut illegal immigration. They will need to pay a three thousand pound deposit, which they will lose if they don't return when their visa expires. In this extract Leicester East MP Keith Vaz, who's chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee tells Dulcie Dixon of his concerns the policy could be reciprocated by other countries. One of the countries on the list is Nigeria, where Leicester’s Ashiedu Joel was born. Here she outlines her concerns about the visa bonds.
