Jersey Hospital consultant Neil Machlachlan on operating on Dana

Matthew Price

Available for over a year

He has had a helping hand in the births of hundreds of babies, but a consultant from Jersey General hospital has two rather special reasons to be proud this summer. Neil Machlachlan has been instrumental in the successful pregnancies and births of two Sumatran orangutans at Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust park in Jersey. His work comes as medical innovation to save this critically endangered species becomes more important across the world. As it marks its fiftieth year as a charity, Harriet Bradshaw explores the connections between Durrell and doctors.
