Birmingham's 'Men Deserts' explained

Sunday night with Nikki Tapper

Available for over a year

Ladywood is one of several UK Districts where 70 per cent of children are now raised in households without fathers - areas which have become known, rather depressingly, as 'men deserts'. Yasmin Alibhai-Brown is a writer who was born in Uganda. She recently wrote an article about 'men deserts' after spending a week in Ladywood She says she discovered some devastating consequences of children who live without their fathers. In this extract, Yasmin tells Â鶹Éç WM Chatback why Ladywood was cherry-picked as a place of the fatherless.
