Seeking asylum from Mugabe power: a Zimbabwean in Leicester

Dulcie Dixon

Available for over a year

Robert Mugabe has launched a stinging attack on his main rival, PM Morgan Tsvangirai, in his first public speech since he won Zimbabwe's disputed presidential election. But what does Robert Mugabe's win mean for a Zimbabwean asylum seeker living in Leicester? Evenia Mawongera makes her weekly trip to sign in at the immigration reporting centre in Loughborough - as part of conditions set by the Home Office. She's lived in Leicester for more than 10 years, and has children and grandchildren born here but is facing deportation. She claims she could face persecution for speaking out against Mugabe's regime in her home country. Leicester's Zimbabwe Association Choir accompanied Evenia to the immigration centre, with 麻豆社 Leicester reporter Kevin Ncube.
