Microsoft boss to retire

World Business Report

Available for over a year

Steve Ballmer, the boss of Microsoft, announces he'll retire next year. Shares in the software giant promptly rose by nine per cent. We assess the legacy of a man noted for his ebullient style, but also criticised by many for Microsoft's slow response to the booming market for mobile devices. Our reporter, Dominic Laurie, is on the next leg of his european tour, today stopping off in Frankfurt to find out how important the eurozone crisis is to the country's elections next month. And we find out why second-hand clothes are giving Malawi's cotton farmers and textile workers such a headache.
