Meeting mental health needs in Leicester

Dulcie Dixon

Available for over a year

Black people are still more likely to be diagnosed with mental illness, and far more likely to come through the mental health system via the police - rather than through health professionals. And once in the system, Black people are more likely to be sectioned. A Leicester group, Akwaaba Ayeh, which represents people from black and minority ethnic groups who have mental health issues, is holding its special event to mark World Mental Health Day. In this extract, organisers Pamela Campbell Morris and Joseph Doku join Dulcie Dixon on Â鶹Éç Radio Leicester for discussion on awareness.
