Warren Aspinall on how he nearly took his own life

Victoria Derbyshire

Available for over a year

Warren Aspinall, former professional footballer, recalls the day he went on to a railtrack planning to kill himself. The former Portsmouth and Aston Villa midfielder's gambling addiction cost him over a million pounds. In 2007, one evening after gambling a month's pay packet in an afternoon, he was drinking at his local pub when he decided to take his own life. In a special programme, Life on the Line, Victoria Derbyshire looks at the hundreds of lives lost on Britain's rail networks. How authorities stop people taking their own lives and why bodies can go unidentified for years.
