Fox meat found in donkey meat in Wal-Mart in China

Up All Night

Available for over a year

The US company Wal-Mart has apologised to Chinese consumers after its 'Five Spice' donkey meat was found to contain more than just donkey and spices. The state of Shandong's Food and Drug Administration has said the product contained fox meat. Wal-Mart has apologised and an investigation is underway. Malcolm Moore, the Telegraph's correspondent in Beijing, spoke to Dotun Adebayo about how this may have happened: "China has one of the world鈥檚 largest fox farming industries, they farm foxes for the fur and that of course leaves a lot of fox meat left over after you have removed the fur, and some unscrupulous farms may indeed be selling it back into the food chain. 鈥淔ox doesn鈥檛 taste like donkey, in fact it doesn鈥檛 taste like any other sort of meat, you have to use special flavouring in order to remove the rank smell and the sour taste of fox.鈥
