Kegworth - 25 years on: Chief Superintendent Jack Atwal's story

It was on Sunday, January the 8th 1989 that British Midland Flight 092 crash landed on the M1 motorway, yards from the edge of the village of Kegworth in the north of Leicestershire. The flight from Heathrow had been bound for Belfast, carrying 126 people on board, when it was struck by engine failure. Forty seven perished and another 74 were gravely injured. Here on 麻豆社 Radio Leicester we heard survivors share their stories of that fateful night and how it's shaped their lives subsequently and now we're hearing from those involved in the rescue and recovery operation. 25 years ago, Chief Superintendent Jack Atwal, then a 24 year old constable with the Derbyshire Police Force, was out dealing with a robbery when he got a call.....
