Polling has started in the Indian Elections. Nearly 30 major political parties and hundreds of smaller groups are campaigning in the colourful elections in the world’s largest democracy. The front runner is currently the controversial Narendra Modi, from the Hindu nationalist BJP. Modi is accused of failing to stop religious violence in Gujarat in 2002, but is seen by his supporters as someone who has brought about significant economic growth as chief minister of the state of Gujarat. The other major contender is Rajiv Gandhi, from the current governing Congress party. But what about for British Indians and in the UK...do these elections matter? Ruchi Tandon has this report…
