Virtually everything that Hector Berlioz composed was inspired by a literary or theatrical idea. Even when he came to write his first symphony, he wrote it with a sub-text - "An Episode in the Life of an Artist". Stephen Johnson considers the different components that make up the Symphonie Fantastique (Op. 14) assisted by the Â鶹Éç Philharmonic and conducted by Yan Pascal Tortelier.
