The current insurgency in Iraq is the result of the West's failure to intervene in Syria, that's according to the former Prime Minister Tony Blair. In an essay on his website he says that the 2003 invasion to topple Saddam Hussein is not to blame and it shouldn't stop Western governments intervening again in the Middle East. Mike O'Brien was a foreign minister under Tony Blair's government and he told 5 live's World Cup Breakfast "The future of Iraq depends on the Sunni having a stake and that's what Barack Obama is saying and that's why I think Tony is not quite right about this. "The Prime Minister of Iraq has broken the coalition with the Sunni and he's cuddled up to Iran. Obama has rightly set out with 'What do we do next?'"
