Birmingham's first black-led catering college axed

Sunday night with Nikki Tapper

Available for over a year

Birmingham's first black-led catering college is to close. The £2.5m school, which specialises in teaching Caribbean style cooking to 14 to 19-year-olds, is being axed just 12 months after it opened, due to a lack of students. The Department for Education served the closure notice because, by April, fewer than 75 people had registered to study at the Kajans Hospitality & Catering Studio College from September. The Executive Director of the college wants the government to reconsider the closure, scheduled for 31 August. In this extract, Hermin McIntosh speaks to the Â鶹Éç's Joe Aldred.
