A group of letters at Derby Local studies library chart a history of a year of the war through the eyes of a local soldier. Rifleman Arthur Bryan sent home the notes from training bases in the UK and the front. They were posted to his wife Louie and their baby daughter at 30 Noel St, Derby. They are very personal love notes focused mainly of life at home. Arthur was killed in France in March 1915 while attempting to save the life of a fellow soldier. The letters were discovered in a Derby properties attic and donated to the library. The house is no longer there today; instead it鈥檚 the site of an industrial estate.
