A German soldier with a British family says both sides felt 鈥渢he same鈥 about going to war in 1914. Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Cremer, a senior German staff officer with a British wife and children, read poems written by a German civilian for a WWI centenary service in the Belgian city of Mons. He said, "The first text is about the patriotism: everybody wants to go to war and everybody thinks we鈥檙e going to win this war in a couple of weeks and go home.鈥 鈥淚n 1918 everybody saw actually, that there鈥檚 no real winner.鈥 This clip is originally from Drive on Monday 4 August 2014.
