Producer: Blackadder isn't being repeated because of Gove criticism

Richard Bacon

Available for over a year

Blackadder producer John Lloyd tells Richard Bacon he suspects the show's First World War-themed fourth season would have been repeated as part of the war's centenary, were it not for criticism from the former Education Secretary Michael Gove. In January, Mr Gove said Blackadder Goes Forth had helped portray an inaccurate picture of the role of British commanders in the war - and had contributed to a view that the conflict was a "misbegotten shambles". John Lloyd says if he had been able to, he would have told Mr Gove that the show was "a comedy, not a documentary".
