UKIP leader Nigel Farage has admitted knowing for months that Douglas Carswell planned to defect to UKIP, and now expects more politicians to follow suit. Clacton MP Douglas Carswell defected to UKIP from the Conservative Party, forcing a by-election in the Essex town. Farage told Chief Political Correspondent John Pienaar the by-election could be a "game changer" for British politics, as more backbenchers could follow Carswell's lead. "There are backbench Conservatives and some Labour who feel very, very strongly in support of what UKIP are trying to achieve," he said.
