Former hostage believes Britain and US should pay ransom fees

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Italian journalist, Guiliana Sgrena, who was kidnapped by insurgents in Iraq in 2005, said ignoring ransom fees is "not the way to fight terrorism". Although the Italian government said they did not pay for her release, she believes that without a ransom being paid, she would be dead. British Prime Minister, David Cameron, said Britain would not pay a ransom to islamist militants holding any British citizen, but Guiliana disagrees with this policy. This clip is originally from 5 live drive on Friday September 5 2014.
