Clarke Carlisle: Racist tweets about Balotelli 'criminal'

Available for over a year

Former Burnley defender Clarke Carlisle has called for "strong action" to be taken against Twitter users who sent racist abuse to Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli. Merseyside police are investigating the abuse sent to Balotelli, after he joked about Manchester United's 5-3 defeat to Leicester. Carlisle, former chairman of the Professional Footballer's Association, said sending such "shocking and deplorable" comments should be seen as "criminal behaviour". "Because a certain minority of people feel it's a faceless platform where they can act with impunity, these views are aired," he said. This clip is originally from Drive on Monday 22 September 2014.
