British man jailed in Morocco for being gay

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

A retired British man on holiday in Morocco has been sentenced to four months in prison for being gay. 69 year-old Ray Cole was with a Moroccan man he'd met online when the pair were arrested in the street. Ray Cole's son Adrian Cole started a twitter campaign to #freeraycole in his attempt to get his dad home. Adrian, who is himself gay was worried that he might be arrested himself when he flew to Morocco to help free his father. “There were no absolute guarantees given to me…so at the back of your mind you’re thinking; could that happen to me?," said Adrian Cole. This clip is originally from the Stephen Nolan programme on Friday 5 October 2014.
