It costs close to £100m, performs 16 quadrillion calculations every second, weighs around 140 tonnes and could revolutionise our weather forecasts. Head of the Public Weather Service at the Met Office Derrick Ryall says the new super computer can perform 10 to 15 times more calculations a second than its predecessor which can give weather forecasts a greater degree of accuracy, but it “can’t change the weather” so you may still get caught in a shower.
