Philbin Bowman: Target terrorists with comedy, not Muslims

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Controversial comedian Abie Philbin Bowman says "targeting" all Muslims with jokes is wrong. The comic, who is known for poking fun at religion in his work, said he had "a couple of jokes about Muhammad" but would not tell them because his target was "Al-Qaeda and ISIS". However, Philbin Bowman said it was important to "convince Muslims" that religious satire was "a useful weapon". "The role of satire is to show the absurdity of people who face cartoons with Kalashnikovs," he said. Last week, seventeen people were killed in Paris in attacks at satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, on a police officer, and at a kosher supermarket. This clip is originally from the 5 live Hit List on Sunday 12 January 2015.
